Mayme graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College and taught in Web ster County, West Virginia. In 1918 she sought a law degree at Gearg e Washington Law School and later Duquenese Univerity Law School in P ittsburg,,PA. She was admitted to the West Virginia Bar in 1924 and t o the Supreme Court Bar in 1928. In 1938 Mayme published a book of Hamrick genealogy on the pioneer fa milies of Webster County, West Virginia with the title THE HAMRICK AN D OTHER FAMILIES - INDIAN LORE which preserved many family records an d stories that would otherwise not survived. She participated in th e annual Point Mountain Reunion.

In 1840 Greenbriar census Mark B Hamrick is listed as part of the Eli Perkins aand moved with them to Roane County, Virginia. Mark settled in Roane County, West Virginia in 1858 and in September 1861 he enlisted in the Federal Army in Company B, 9th West Virginia Infantry. He fought in 37 Battles including Charlestown, Kernstown, Lynchberg, Winchester, Cloyd Mountain and many others. Mark while marching through Jackson County he saw one he liked and told her he would be back to marry her when the war was over and he did.
