He was a noted hunter and woodsman of his time. He was a hunting and fishing companion of W E R Byrne author of TALES OF THE ELK. Byrne tells many humorous stories of Billie G. Ray L Hamrick wrote a story about Billy relating that he had killed a bear and took the bearskin home. His pigs got in his corfield and he chased all of the out except his old sow. She would go through the opening he made in the fence so he took the bears skin into the field and the pig exited. A few days later he visited his neighbor Sam Given "Devil Sam" Dodrill who had a strange pig in his pen. Billy recognized it as his old sow he had chased out of the corfield with the bear skin. Upon hearing the story Sam Dodrill refered to him thereafter as "Bearskin Billy"spouse: Hamrick, Catherine (*1872 - )Burial - Hamrick Cem,Webster Springs,Webster,WV;
