!Charley + Leanna Powell: with their son, Carl, came to Kansas by tra in with his father, Thomas Green Powell Sr. They reached Cimarron, K S in March 1886. !Others who came at this time were Sabrett O Powel l + wife, Lana, and daughter, Ethel; Josie Ann Powell + Thomas Gree n Powell, Jr "Tommy" Belongings along with livestock + chickens were unloaded from the car s onto the prairie alongside the railroad tract, and freighted by wag on about sixty miles southwest to Seward Co, where the men took "tre e claims". They were near Fargo Springs, Springfield + Arkalon. !The Wm P Holmes, also from Boone Co, Ind., had reached this localit y in Oct 1885, + were living near Arkalon. They became friends. Jos ie Ann Powell married Jonas Holmes, son of William + Eliza Holmes, a t Arkalon. !Eventually all of the families moved again, this time "back east" a s far as Reno Co, Kansas. !Newspaper Death Notice of Charley Edwin Powell !Charles Edwin Powell was born in Bushville, Rush Co, Indiana 25 Oc t 1855. He united with the Christian Ch when about 17 yrs of age + r emaind in the faith until death. !He was married to Joseph L Hambrick in 1883. On 3/18/85, they move d to Seward Co KS + in the spring of 93 came to Hutchinson. They rem oved to Langdon in 1900, + near Arlington in 1906. He lived in Arlin gton 17 yrs. !Survived by brother: Thomas Powell, Sister: Ms Jonas Holmes + 7 chil dren: Carl m Powell, Pratt; Susan McCalla, Nickerson; Goldie Mitchell , Arlington; Laura Hoffman, Preston; Lloyd Powell, Sylvia; Katie Mill er, Durham; Emma Scarbrough, Pratt. Naomi Powell, a daughter, preced ed him in death 16 years ago. He is also survived by his wife + 37 g randchildren and 9 great grand- children, besides a host of relative s + friends. Mr Powell was a Mason for 33 years + a member of OES. His last year s were spent in much pain + bodily weakness, besides being almost bli nd. He was a patient sufferer, and bore his infirmity with courage . He was well known, and many friends came to greet + cheer him.
