Our Family

Our family, the Henderson's, likely came from Scotland to England to Canada and then to the United States. Along the way there have been a lot of other family lines that contributed to our success. The ones which we know about are listed below. Each name is linked to a page devoted to that surname and the history as we know it currently. The local groups provide the access to the specific areas in which our family members lived prior to their coming to the United States.

The Motivation for Genealogy

There are two motivating factors in the decision to undertake the development of the Henderson family tree. The first were the words of encouragement from daughter Cherie, who at her wedding "suggested" that it would be nice to know about our heritage. The second motivational factors was the decision to learn enough genealogy to be able to be recognized by the Clan Henderson.

The Clan Henderson

  This is the official tartan of the clan HENDERSON.

Until recently the Henderson's were considered septs of other clans. In 1966 the clan was given full clan status. We are hoping to be able to link our genealogy far enough back in time and with solid enough research to be able to qualify for clan acceptance. While we are most interested in the Henderson Clan, several of the names are scottish in origin and may also qualify for clan membership.

The Arms of the Clan Henderson

These are the arms of the Clan Henderson. Every member of the clan is allowed to use and display these. The arms for my family have not yet been identified and by custom and law only the eldest child of the family may claim them.
