GEORGE W. WHETHAMIn 1878 he married Melissa Holliday, who still survives. On December 25th, 1938 had he lived, they would have been married 60 years. He was a Conservative in politics, and Justice of Peace for 16 years. He was a life-long member of the Drew Methodist Church, which was opened shortly after his marriage.
There are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father, his wife, three sons and two daughters: Wissmer, Roy and Norman, all of Minto Township; Audrey, Mrs. Alex Johnston and Gladys, Mrs. Wesley Moon, near Harriston. One son, James, pre-deceased him in 1916 and one daughter, Henrietta, in 1926. One sister, Mrs. Martha Lyons also survives. There are 13 grand children and 11 great-grandchildren.
The Funeral was held from the old homestead on August, 31st and was largely attended. Rev. A. C. Perkins of Harrison United Church conducted the services and a duet, "Some Day the Silver Chord will Break" was well rendered by Mrs. A. Gibson and Mr. F. Holtom. Pall-bearers were Geo. Crow, R. J. Holtom, D. Bell, H. Dickson, A. Hamilton and J. Arthurs. Flowere-bearers were relatives of the deceased, Gordon Cowan, Ross Holliday, Wallace Ammerman, Leslie Holliday, Wayne Williamson and Alex Shiel. Mr. and Mrs. George Whetham, Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Scott, Mrs. Rachael Scott, all of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. David Carmount of Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. A. Hamilton and sons of Drayton, and friends from surrounding towns were present.
The remains were laid to rest in the family plot in Mr. Forest Cemetery.
