As each server receives
Holy Communion and passes the paten to the server to his left
(beginning with the Second Thurifer), he stands, genuflects, and
walks to his next position as shown in Figure XXIV. The Second
Acolyte assists the priest with the paten as the priest distributes
Holy Communion to the people. (NOTE: if Benediction follows, the
thurifers also take the thurible and incense to the sacristy,
light another charcoal, and bring them back out.)

When the priest finishes distributing Communion, he returns to the altar. He opens the tabernacle, places the extra hosts in the ciborium inside the tabernacle, and closes the tabernacle. As the priest closes the tabernacle, the acolytes retrieve the water and the wine from the credene table. The acolytes ascend the step and assist the priest with the water and wine as he needs them (see Figure XXV).
At the same time, the MC comes to the center of the foot of the
altar, and the torch bearers line up behind him. They all genuflect,
the MC takes a position to the right of the altar step (see Figure
XXV), and the torch bearers take their torches to the sacristy.
The torch bearers return from the sacristy, line up at the center
of the foot of the altar, genuflect, walk to their standard positions,
and kneel, as shown in Figure XXV.
