11 February 1999My PreciousIt always makes my day nicer when Tom comes home from work. I'm usually outside waiting for him and he always greets me with a VERY contented smile and exclaims, "my PRECIOUS!" I get a kiss and he puts his arms around me and I'm encircled in love. I feel like a little puppy whose person has just arrived and I wag all over.Tonight, he came bearing gifts. He presented me with a little white beany baby type white bear with a red heart on its butt. He also had two bottles of champagne, a six pack of beer that a co-worker gave him (Terry always brings a six pack of Shiner beer when he has been to Shiner, Texas) and a bottle of Corbett Canyon Zinfandel. We usually have Merlot, but he wanted to try something different. I call red wine my kidney stone medicine since I read somewhere that it helped to prevent kidney stones. Tonight, I was especially glad to see the wine since I had another kidney stone episode this afternoon. Those things HURT! I was putting off taking the pain medication until he got home so I could ask him if he would make dinner. Of course, I knew he would, but I just couldn't ask if I was zoned out on something and asleep. He wouldn't wake me; he's that way. As it turned out, the pain had mostly passed (along with the stone) by the time he got here. I was waiting for him in my car - it is warmer there on these windy, cool days. We made dinner together. I like that. I battered the chicken and put it in the deep frier and he mothered it from there. The Long One is on patrol tonight. He's been all over his cage two or three times, instead of just staying curled up in the water dish or something. I never thought about living with a rattlesnake and I can't say I was completely comfortable with the idea when we married, but I've adapted. His cage is next to my computer and I don't get the heeby jeebies any longer when he is on patrol. His real name isn't The Long One, although that is what most of us call him. His real name is something in Spanish. I don't know what it is. |
