Sacrilegious

I dug a beautiful hole today. Maybe I should say I 'dag' the hole. When we got the dirt for the veggie garden, Cricket started scratching and pawing and digging at the bags. Tom disciplined him for it. I commented that he hadn't been able to dig much of a hole in the bags. Tom said, "but if he dag all night . . ." Dag??? What kind of a word is dag??? (I get hysterical over really stupid things, in case you don't know that.) Tom said, "yeah, like DIG, DAG, DUG". In Tom's defense, he knew that dag wasn't really a word, but he likes to keep me amused.

Anyway, back to the hole. I've never dug a prettier hole in my life. It is almost perfectly square, about two feet wide and two feet long and eighteen inches deep -- a most impressive hole. Then I filled it with water for the drain-in-an-hour test. That was just before noon. It was nearly three o'clock the last time I looked at it and it was STILL over half full of water. So much for the drainage. The roses are soaking in bleach water and will be ready to plant tonight, so I'd better come up with some sort of plan B.

It wasn't as windy today as it has been, so the carrot seeds are sown. Carrot seeds are itsy things, so I'm sure they are not very evenly spaced. I just HATE having to thin plants. I felt sacrilegious thinning the tomato plants down to one per pot. I'll probably feel even worse not being able to plant them all. Chances are, I'll try to pawn some of them off on my mother-in-law or daughter. Teresa grew peppers last year, so perhaps she'll take some tomato and pepper plants off my hands. Not that I have any pepper plants; they haven't sprouted yet. The peas are sown, too. They were much easier to work with because they are actual peas. No problem at all putting them where I want them.

Next week is Jason's and Daniel's spring break. We normally go camping and if the grandkids also have their spring break at the same time, they go as well. This year, the breaks aren't concurrent. I approached Tom with the idea that I need to take Jason and Daniel camping for a few days during the break. This will be our first separation while married and I'm not completely cool with it, but Tom doesn't really appreciate camping with the kids nearly as much as I do.

I also talked to him about having the grand offspring over for a few days of their spring break. He's not completely thrilled with that idea either. He made some comment about last year when they were setting off firecrackers in my living room. I assured him that we don't have any firecrackers this year. Since I've wanted him to get rid of his box of blasting caps, I mentioned that perhaps they could set those off instead.

I suppose life with me and mine is a bit different than his prior lifestyles. Certainly there is a lot of stuff going on that he never had to deal with in the monastery. Even his few years since he gave up monkdom he had a solitary type lifestyle. Then, he met Carole and everything changed.

I sent out more resumes today. My fax software is giving an error, although it appears that the faxes are sending correctly. I was so excited about one job that I wrote a pretty cover letter and printed it out, along with my resume, on fancy bond paper and snail mailed it. I've really taken to the idea of e-mailing and faxing resumes. Most of the HR folks I've talked to really like the e-mail, so as a rule, if there is an e-mail address available and if it doesn't say TEXT only, I e-mail it.

It is getting harder and harder to make ends meet. I suppose since I want an income, I need a job. It is very difficult to be as frivolous as I need to be (need?) without an income, that's for sure.

Do I want to watch Monica's interview tonight? Nah.
