A Journal of Sorts |
Thursday, 11 March 1999Rolling ThunderI awakened this morning to thunder, delicious, booming, rolling thunder, the kind that rattles your insides. I love it! Most weather has a profound influence on me and my outlook, but nothing is so uplifting to me as these Texas thunderstorms. Tom and I stood outdoors feeling the thunder as it approached, then passed. I loved every second of it.I suppose the rest of the day was somewhat anticlimactic after the thunderstorm had passed. Tom got down our box of camping gear for us. I called the State Park where we intended to go and found out that the campsites were underwater, so I talked with Jason and we decided to stay home. Our plan is to go up to Texoma the weekend after next. We have to be up there for a wedding anyway. Dede's brother, Chuck, is getting married. Jason and I did the quality time thing today. I taught him how to play backgammon. With his various learning disabilities, he is unable to read and write and isn't too swift with numbers, but he managed to pick up the game quite nicely. Nicely enough to kick my butt a few times. I didn't cut him much slack, either, the last couple of games.
Tom got on a cleaning binge this evening, so the kitchen and entry are sparkling. I haven't been in the bedroom yet, but he went in there with a bundle of clean clothes and stayed for about half an hour. I'm hoping he hung up the clothes and made the bed. I stripped it earlier today and laundered the bedding. I love fresh bedding. I wish I had a clothesline.
That reminds me. I go through life not really realizing how times are still changing. I know things are different now from my grandmother's time, but occasionally I'm reminded that things are different now than from when I was younger as well. Daniel asked me once, "Mom, what's a clothesline?" Lots of new peas are sprouted today and two of the crocus out front are showing color. I also found some tulip nubs in one of the pots out front -- three of them. There are three tulips under the burr oak tree that came back this year. They have buds and are just starting to show pinkish. |
