Thursday, 14 April 1999New FolderHave you ever done a search on your system for New Folder? I just did and, surprisingly, there were only five of them to delete. Being an old mainframe/command prompt type of person, I resisted the GUI interfaces as long as I possibly could. I still drop to the command prompt for quite a few things, like copying or deleting files, ftp stuff, or doing maintenance work. I remember my delight when I actually used the mouse for a cut and paste operation in Word Perfect. I exclaimed to Dede, "I'm mouse literate!"But it seems I still do some pretty strange things with a wrong mouseclick. All the time, when I'm highlighting a list of files to delete from some of my work directories, I do ~something~ and end up with the entire list over again. Copy of deleted.gif. There have even been times when I've managed to create Copy(2) of deleted.gif; I've even seen Copy(3) of deleted.gif a time or two. One of the most annoying things I do is to create those darned New Folder directories all over the place, or I find several New Folder icons staring at me from my desktop. I've started playing with a bit of Java Script and style sheet stuff. It is interesting seeing the differences in how various browsers interpret it. I'd like to find the 'standards' that look the same in both browsers, but I think one of browsers has been tampered with, MADE to do non-standard things . . I'm not going to mention IE's name, though. I use Netscape. I've tried to make myself IE literate by setting it as my default browser; I even went so far as to import my bookmark file into IE from Netscape. Some of IE's features drive me nuts, though. This on-line/off-line crap, for example, in Outlook Express and in Internet Explorer. Of course I want to work ON-line or I wouldn't be on-line! And why even ask if I want to work off-line. Obviously, if I wanted to work on-line, I'd log in. Duh My little time management thing is working out well so far. I'm glad I left all of that extra time in the schedule, though. The simple task of organizing the guest room and closet has already led to multiple cat hair removal and yarn untangling side projects. Even at that, I managed to reach the time allocated for the next task before I made much of a dent in the guest room. I decided to move on anyway. The guest room is back on my schedule for tomorrow. I was awakened in the wee hours by rain in my face, so the storms did, indeed, visit the area. By dawn the storm had slacked to a gentle rain and by 10:00AM, sunshine. Since I left my car window down, I got my fanny all wet driving Jason to school. My car seat was like a sopping wet sponge. Even though Tom had made a heroic 4:00AM trip out to roll my windows up, he warned me that I would need a towel to sit on. Did I listen? NO! With the help of the butterflies, I've planted the baby tomatoes, squash and jalepenos. I hope it isn't too windy for them. I also planted the oregano and the cilantro. I'm SURE it was too windy to deal with the oregano seeds. No telling where they really got planted. Tom has been hinting around about our mint. We have mint growing in a crack between the house and the patio. Every now and then he wonders aloud if it can be transplanted. I think I'll try that tomorrow. My poor arthritic back sure hurts. |
