A Journal of Sorts |
Thursday, 15 April 1999The little ratMichael is going absolutely berserk over the small pet carrier box with the scrabbling sounds coming from it. He is a handsome little rat; Jason feels that he is much too cute to be a meal for The Long One. So I have a cat and a snake competing for dinner and a kid who wants him as a pet.I absolutely love looking at our yard. Although it is still very barren, it looks loved. Just 2 years ago, when Tom bought the house, there was absolutely nothing but weeds in the backyard. Now, I sit out there and see the three trees, the rose bushes, the hollys, the crepe myrtles, the mum bed, the frog statuary, the veggie garden and the lawn that is mostly grass. Tom keeps it well manicured and it is simply a pleasure sitting out there in the mornings and evenings gazing at our creation and feeling all the pride and love one feels on such occasions. I have a vision of garden paths, flowers, a pond, flowers, a fountain, flowers, bird feeders everywhere, flowers, shade trees and flowers. Oh, did I mention lots of flowers? Spring flowers, shade flowers, sun flowers, night flowers, winter flowers, tall flowers, fragrant flowers, summer flowers, fancy flowers, wild flowers, flowering bushes, short flowers, autumn flowers and blooming trees? For now, I'm very content to see what we've made so far and dream of the next little project. One of the things Jason and I do for entertainment is to give Cricket a bath. Cricket doesn't complain about the bath, but when we put him down to finish drying, he goes berserk. Jason holds him, "Come on, Mom!" until I grab my coffee and take a seat in the lawn chair. Loose, Cricket becomes a whirlwind of dog. He propels himself across the yard, while laying on first one side than his other. He scrapes along the side of the house, back and forth, so fast that he's all in a blur. He flops like a fish, then turns sommersaults trying to get the top of his head dry. All in all, he puts on an excellent dog acrobat show for five or ten minutes. We should sell tickets. A few of kids in Daniel's theatre group are performing Welcome to Nowhere a play for the special education children in the area - AND - I'm allowed to attend! I love watching these things; there is so much talent on display I can't help but think the next generation of Hollywood is right before my eyes. I'll see if I can get a pic or two. Ok, I've lied to some of you when I said Lara wasn't updating her journal. She has started anew with My Brightest Star. Now, I know where to go for ~my~ updates on little Savannah. The Long One loved the rat. |
