Teen news

I got e-mail from Daniel last night. He sent me a poem -- "I saw this in a book at school and thought of you."

Trying On Clothes

I tried on the farmer's hat,
Didn't fit.
A little small - just a bit
Too floppy.
Couldn't get used to it,
Took it off.

I tried on the dancer's shoes,
A little too loose.
Not the kind you could use
For walkin'.
Didnt feel right in 'em,
Kicked 'em off.

I tried on the sun,
Felt good.
Nice and warm - knem it would.
Tried the grass beneath bare feet,
Felt neat.
Finally, felt well dressed,
Nature's clothes just fit me best.

I heard from Katie last night, too. For those of you who are new readers, she is quite the budding young artist. One of her latest projects is to sculpt a turtle out of stone. Last I heard from her, she was worried about a crystal vein in the backside of her turtle, afraid it might break. She updated me last night:

. . . but I worked on it earlier today, and I got
past the crystal vein. My teacher, Mrs. Mosse, was
helping me shape the underside, and she hit a shell.
It popped right out, leaving a perfect impression,
and the shell almost undamaged. I added it to my
rock collection. :)

She says she is going to leave the shell imprint in there unless it interferes with the design of her piece. I love Katie's work and hope to see more of it soon. (Daniel, I love yours too.)

I didn't get any e-mail or ICQ messages from Jason, but he has been busy accomplishing, none the less.

During yesterday's shopping binge, I bought two sets of bookcases for Jason's room. They are those put-it-together-yourself kind of bookcases. When Jason discovered them in the van, I told him that I was keeping their existance a secret because I didn't want to fool with them right away. He took matters into his own hands and soon had assembled both sets. If I hadn't wrestled with so many of those easy assembly projects myself, I wouldn't be nearly so impressed, but I have and I am.

Since Jason barely reads, there was one point where he called me in and asked me to read the directions to him. They were written in French or something and had him quite confused. He found his problem before I got there anyway. He had one of his shelves backwards.

The playThe play was great! The kids all loved it, cheered in the right places and everything. It was fun being an adult in a sea of kids, especially Special Education kids. They don't temper their enthusiasm in the least.

The photos I took suck, though. Sometimes, I'm lucky; this time I wasn't.
