Near rants
Friday, I'll be going out to the ranch to babysit while Teresa goes to a religious retreat. I worry about her Christian zeal, afraid it might be magnifying some of the problems they have at home. It is never good for one family member to get all righteous about the behavior of another, especially when they are married.There isn't much harder than having two teenagers and a step-dad who drinks nearly every evening. Of course, just having ~four~ kids might be enough to turn me to religion. It can be an excellent crutch.
Seriously, though, I can't help but think that having Jesus in your heart isn't supposed to make you the type of person who is a finger pointer or give you a holier than thou attitude. Isn't the main thrust of the whole thing to teach you about love?
I'm trying a new thing today, closing my mailer. Most of the day, I keep my computer logged into the Internet and the mailer up so I won't miss a love note from Tom. Since I've joined all of these mailing lists, though, the thing is dinging at me all the time. It isn't enough to just read my mail, either; I have to click on all the interesting links and maybe even link to something else from there, and so on and so forth.
A big deal in Littleton, CO -- a shooting in a high school, a terrible thing and a tragedy to those involved. But the reporting of the incident really bothers me. They said it was done by Goths. Even if it WAS Goths instead of just weirdos who like to wear black, what purpose is there in mentioning that on the news? What does it add to the story?
I hate it when I hear stuff like that. Two Hispanic women . . . , a black youth . . ., a homosexual. Why do they DO that, knowing that it just feeds the mentality of those people who think, (insert various group name) are nothing but evil. Certainly Goths didn't make the decision to go crazy in Colorado, individual people made that decision. What difference does it make if they were gothic? It isn't like they had to describe fugitives so everyone could be on the lookout or anything.
I've just almost gone off on religion and racial issues now. Perhaps I should just stop writing before I get off on politics or go into a real rant.
