A Journal of Sorts |
Tuesday, 27 April 1999JavaScript BibleYesterday, Tom took me to the bookstore and got me a copy of the JavaScript Bible. Over 1000 pages of pure learning for me. I sat down and started reading it, at page one. I got all the way to chapter two before I put it down. Fascinating stuff, the background of JavaScript. At this rate, fifteen pages a day, I should be able to sit down and write something clever in about two and a half months.Tom grabbed the book after dinner tonight and is over there happily coding away. It makes me wonder if I'm going about this all wrong. After all, I am the programmer in the family; he's just a web designer. Amazing that he can be productive with a book without reading it from cover to cover. There must be a lesson in this somewhere. Jason's birthday is this coming weekend. He will be 14. His heart's desire for his party is to go skating. I think I can manage roller skating financially, but I haven't checked into ice skating. I'm sure all the boys would just love to try that, if they haven't already. I'm not so sure I'm ready to try ice skating though. I've learned that the older I get the harder I fall (and the harder it is to get up with finesse). The last time we were roller skating, I only fell about three times and they were all very gentle falls; most of them from a full stop. I survived and even had some fun trying to learn how to turn around and skate backwards. One of the most annoying things I can think of right now is the sound of tennis shoes in the dryer. |
