How sweet

So I have a sidebar now. What do you think I should do with it?

Gender Jobs

I've not exactly been successful at assigning what I call gender jobs around here. For example, automobile maintenance is a man thing right? No amount of hinting around will get my oil changed for me, but I don't want to get too snooty about it. After all, this gender thing could be carried WAY to far and Tom could tell me that doing dishes is a girl thing and I'm not sure I want to hear that.

Therefore, I've taken it upon myself to check into the basics of car maintenance. Here's what my finding are:

  • engine coolant - it is low; the reservoir is completely empty
  • transmission fluid - it is low; doesn't even show on the stick
  • oil - oil level is fine, but it is a nasty black color
  • power steering fluid - just a little low
  • tires - tread is ok; need air
  • windshield washer fluid - empty (but I knew that)
  • brake fluid - fine
So, I have a few things to play with over the next few days. Then, I suppose I should actually CHANGE the oil and filter. That is a job I hate and I think my ex-roommate has custody of my oil catching pans. Another thing I need to do is figure out what fuses or bulbs I need to replace in order for my brake lights to work. People often come very close to rear ending me -- not a good thing.

I suppose while I'm at it, I should look into getting a current registration (its been out for nearly a year now) and current safety inspection (its been out for nearly two years).

That is probably the affordable part. I also suspect I need to replace the back brake pads and get a tuneup.

And what about bicycles? Mine is hanging from the ceiling in the garage. I've had the urge (from Jason mainly) to ride my bicycle. But, there it hangs with two flat tires and a seat that needs to be lowered. Now, isn't that also a MAN thing?

You see, my definition of a MAN thing is a thing that I don't want to do, usually involving skill with tools, but occasionally demanding eyesight.
