A Dandelion Bouquet
Last night, we had dinner with Shane and Sharlene. Shane is my ex-step-son,
Daniel's and
Jason's half brother. Sharlene is his wife. I've not seen Shane for
years. I can't help remembering him as a young teen and it is hard to
adjust to him pushing 40 now.
Sharlene is the woman who inspired Lois to
say, "I hope they don't decide to have kids." I don't know how
to describe Sharlene -- perhaps she is just beyond description. Although I
find her to be quite entertaining, just sitting at the same table with her
made Tom so tired that he came home and went
straight to bed.
Sharlene's claim to fame is her ability to drop pearls of conversation from
far, far left field. One of the tidbits from last night -- "We have sex
once a week, on Saturday." She confronted a total stranger in the
restaurant saying, "That is my husband, Shane and my ex-step-mother-in-law
and her husband." Her chatter is constant and ninety miles an hour at
all times. She has no decorum; there are no taboo subjects.
Tom may never take us to that restaurant again for fear of running into them.

I was a few minutes late picking Daniel up after school today so he had
started walking home. When I did pick him up, he had already
covered a block or two and had a nice bouquet of dandelions for me. See
why I love him so much? Actually, I'd probably love him anyway, but
those thoughtful little things he does really make my day.

I learned something about mockingbirds this morning. As much time as I spend
out listening to them, I've never noticed the mockingbird song ritual. Tom
pointed it out to me. They sort of jump. Usually perched as high as they
can be, they'll sing for awhile, then do a little fly up in the air thing and
land back down where they were to begin with.
I watched two other songsters this evening and sure enough, they do the
same thing. I'm impressed. Why do they do that?

My first interview for
EnterView is officially published. I published it myself non-officially
earlier in the week by accidently sending it to the entire diary-l(ist) instead of
to the publisher.
