Spaghetti Dinner
I didn't realize how many people were here until I started making breakfast
and trying to decide how many eggs we needed. Ten is a goodly number to be
cooking for. No wonder last night's feast took forever to prepare. I guess
I just never counted my offspring before . .
Teresa showed me how to cook bacon in the
oven. That's a handy little trick, for sure. She also showed me the fast
and easy, microwave method of heating tortillas. I discovered on my own that
my big skillet will only hold about two dozen scrambled eggs at one time.
I like it when there is just enough food; everyone has eaten their fill and
there are no leftovers.

After a late breakfast, we did some quick cleanup and everyone scattered, each
to his or her own. Daniel and Rodney played a game of Magic, Jason and Tony
disappeared into Jason's room to play some sort of video game and listen
to CD's. Eric took over my computer to play
Doom and DukeNukem while Gaspar watched
Mexican fights on TV and Tom went into hiding
with The JavaScript Bible.
Time passed. Teresa and I were doing a bit of cleaning crew stuff and
playing with Alex. When Tom migrated to
yard work, I helped on and off until the poker game started (when the fights
were over).
Poker was, as usual, a lot of fun. Teresa and Gaspar were the big winners;
Rodney and I were the big losers. I always decide when I start playing
exactly how much money I'm willing to lose before I quit. This time, I lost
the entire seventy-five cents and dropped out.

We had a bit more company. Tom's cousin, Rusty and his wife, Liz came by
to drop off our wedding video. This is the first time we have seen it
since our wedding, nearly eight months ago. Awwww . .it was so romantic.
Shortly thereafter, folks started drifting off. Gaspar, Teresa, Eric
and Alex headed back out to the ranch. Ed came
over and picked up Tony and Jason. Liz and Rusty headed off to do whatever
they had to do and suddenly the place was quiet as a tomb. Just us and
the two older boys in the house. Whew, what a difference!

Later, Daniel was trying to get me to do laundry for him and I was trying
to get Rodney to make dinner for me. ("I don't know how" was the
operative excuse.) So, I told Daniel to teach Rodney how to make spaghetti
and told Rodney to teach Daniel how to do laundry and came in here to see
if I could get an entry written.
I overheard Daniel say, "Look, you just do the laundry and I'll just
make dinner, ok?" So it worked out.
After awhile, Tom and I got the call to dinner. Not only had they prepared
dinner, but they had set the table, served it up for us, even had garlic
bread and little bread saucers at each place setting, place mats, and
napkins. They even had music and wine!
I could get used to this!
