Eight Months
Today was the longest interview I've had EVER. I suppose that it is a good
sign. As each person decides that you are
maybe ok, then they call in the next person to interview you. I got through
four people today.
It was an ordeal.
This was the department store for the mainframe support stuff. One of the
guys actually had me writing JCL. I'm surprised that I remembered the stuff
after all this time, but I am certain I was well received by that particular
person.
The data center was the most sophisticated that I've ever seen and the
methodology employed by the support structure is the most proactive I have
ever seen. They have developed systems that monitor systems and create
a trouble ticket when something isn't right . .a job was late or a library is
near capacity. With those checks in place, I can see where it would
be possible to resolve a problem before anyone even knows there is one. I'm
completely and totally impressed.
They had a lovely campus, too. It is landscaped with multilevel pathways
through gardens and fountains. I enjoyed the hike into the building from
the parking area -- something about smelling flowers always soothes me.
Tomorrow I have an interview with a telecommunications company not far
from the house. It is a much smaller organization which means the benefits
won't be all that great. If I get past the technical interviews, then there
will be a lunch interview with the managers. I hate those. It is hard
enough paying attention to every little nuance of the conversation without
trying to keep food off my chest as well.
Maybe I'll be lucky and they will be the stuffed shirt types. If nobody
cracks a joke, I'll be less likely to spew food.
Today was our wedding anniversary. We've been married for eight
months now. I liked Tom a lot when I
married him, but I like him a
whole lot more now. He sort of grew on me. *smile* The best part
is that he puts up with me.
