and some jalepenos and cilantro there should be a good Mexican
dinner in the making.

Creating Memories
During the drive back to the ranch last night,
Tony briefly popped up from his nap in the backseat to ask if we
were going to be out there for July 4th. He said that he wanted to
do fireworks again.
I smiled.
This is one of the many memories we've created as a family and one
of the many that I am proud of. Beginning in my early adult years,
I noticed that my acquaintances all had childhood memories and
stories that they shared -- big adventures and just simple fun
times they had. I also noticed that I had no such good memories to
share.
Now, I have them. Not only do I have them, but the kids and grandkids
have them, too.
No matter what we do, we are creating a memory of some sort. Often
memories happen because of repetition. Every year, for example, I try
to go catch some tadpoles to live in a fishbowl until they become little
froggies. Recently, when I mentioned the tadpoles, Teresa said, "I remember tadpoles!"
Memories aren't big things, as a rule. They can be a walk in the woods,
a Sunday afternoon drive, a holiday tradition -- whatever we are doing, we
are creating memories for ourselves and those around us.

Somedays are another thing that have become meaningful to me. I
overheard a woman talking to a friend of hers about how her sister had
just passed away.
She had many regrets, so many words left unsaid, but one comment she
made really stuck in my mind. She said that her sister was the sort of
person who put things off. She was always going to do things
some day.
Most of the things she was going to do some day were little things, things
that there was no real reason to put off. They didn't cost a lot of money
or even take a lot of time. They were simple things -- going to a garden
show, visiting a farm, reading a certain book.
When I hear myself or someone I love saying they are going to do something
some day, it gets my attention in a big way and I do my best to keep the
some day list very short.
