More Peas
Tom got e-mail from his dad this morning
saying that his neighbor asked about the flag that was missing from
in front of their house yesterday. Now, I have a complex over stealing
it. I'm thinking the next time we go over there, I'll put it back.

I was sitting here doing my weekly resume/cover letter thing when Tom
came in and asked me if the sack of ashes in the garage was important.
What sack of ashes? I had to go look and sure enough, there was a
white trash bag full of ashes in our garage. How strange . .we
don't have a fireplace.
I suppose I should unpack. No telling what all is in the garage. I've
been here since October and there are still stacks of boxes in the
garage. It will be like Chrismas or something . .discovering what all
is in them.
I have a theory on the ashes, though. Whenever I cleaned out the
fireplace, I'd put all the ashes in a garbage back and put them on the
back patio until the next time I went to the dumpster. I also had a
garbage bag with potting soil in it. Whenever something would die or
get repotted, I'd put the soil in a bag with some fresh humus to use
again. I have a feeling that I threw out the potting soil and kept the
ashes.
That's why I moved a sack of ashes over here . .makes sense to me.

Our yard is lovely again. Tom keeps it nice all the time, but there
is something special about the just mowed and trimmed look. I'm
surprised I like it so much because, in the past, I've always leaned
toward the overgrown jungle look. It will be interesting to see how
our gardens/landscaping evolve.
I want some beds for annuals, but I also want bulbs everywhere, not only
the spring flowering bulbs, but the summer and fall bulbs as well. I
want lilies -- all sorts of lilies. I want hollyhocks, roses, clematis,
iris, azaleas and cannas.
I want sun gardens, shade gardens and water gardens. I want a pond and
a fountain. I want saint statuary and a gazebo and a swing. I want
bird feeders everywhere and a sundial.
Most of all, I want trash trees. Tom has a thing about trees. He
wants trees that are going to be here a hundred years from now or
they aren't worth having in his book. I want some pretty trees,
too.
A copse of mimosas in the back yard would be VERY nice, as far
as I'm concerned. I like pretty bark, unusual shapes, odd leaf patterns,
blossoms and even evergreen with MY trees. I don't care if I
only get to enjoy them for 20 years.
Oh, and I want to grow more peas.
