I'm Legal
Last week, while coming back home from a dinner out, I got
stopped because my brake lights weren't working. The nice
policeman just happened to notice that the inspection sticker
on my van had expired two years ago and that the registration
had expired last year. He gave me a couple of tickets.
I suppose I can't complain. I had no good excuse. And all I
had to do to get the tickets dismissed was to register my car and
get it inspected.
So, Saturday,
Kara Leah came over to help with the car stuff. She made note
of all the missing bulbs while I turned on blinkers, stepped on the brakes,
tested the backup lights and tail lights. We went to the auto supply
store and got the
bulbs (along with some transmission fluid, since I needed to add
some) and then went off on other adventures.
We went to a head shop. KaraLeah got some new tongue rings and
I picked up a few things, including a vampire poster and choker
necklace for Daniel.
Then, she took me downtown to tour the Internet America offices. Wow,
I've never seen such huge routers.
Anyway, Sunday, Tom helped me with the
light bulbs and we got the van inspected. Half legal.
Today, at lunch, I went to get the registration taken care of. When
the girl asked me if I had been driving the car, I admitted it. I
admitted it knowing it would cost me a penalty. (Just like I
admitted to the policeman that I had no good reason to have my
car so illegal). It was just under $70.00, so I wrote them a check,
got the sticker for my windshield and left.
After work, I went to the city courthouse to get my tickets dismissed
and was told I couldn't because I hadn't paid the penalty for driving
the van without registration. I argued with her until she shoved the
receipt under my nose and told me that there was NO charge on there
for a penalty. *sigh*
In any event, I have the sticker and my van is LEGAL!
