The Baby Bird

Our air conditioner has stopped working. It is no longer just a little bit cooler in the house -- if we want to cool off, now we go outside. Since the temps have been in the low 100F's, that says a lot for how HOT it is in the house. whew!

There was a get together at the folk's house today. We all gathered to celebrate Mom's and Pop's birthdays. They were both in July.

Tom's sister and family are visiting from Holland. The kids, Kevin and Christy, have grown tons since I saw them a few months ago. Both of them, but Christy especially, have become quite outgoing.

I tried to convince them to do some new artwork for us as what we have is quite old. With the new house, we need more stuff.

Mom's and Pop's yard is absolutely lovely, all lush and green and blooming! There are bird's nests at eye level with baby birds in them. One guy, a baby cardinal, sure looks regal standing at the edge of his nest, all dressed in the finest down and pinfeathers, squawking away like he owned the place.

Another little guy wasn't so lucky. The kids found him in the bushes with blood on him. They took him inside and put him in a shoe box for awhile. Later, they transferred him to a flowerpot outside. After several feedings of sunflower seed mush, he perked up quite a bit.

As you can see from the photo, he seemed to really like the mush.

Daniel and I have been out playing in the sprinkler. It reminds me of hot summers when I was a kid. The sprinklers were one of my favorite entertainments, right up there with swimming pools and slip-n-slides.

We had to be careful, though. Sticking a hose down your blouse and turning on the water can be a scorching experience after the hose has been laying in the sun all day.
