Both of the rose bushes are still blooming. This is one of Tom's
roses.

The Family Thing
It was a family sort of day. A very nice one, I might add. From our
house, we went to Luby's for lunch. Our next stop was at Mike's and
Toni's home (my brother-in-law and sister-in-law), then we cruised by
the campus where I work.
Mom and Pop,
along with eight of their offspring arrived around 11:30 or so. Let's
see, there was Nancy (Tom's sister) and her husband, Skip. There was
Ellen (Tom's sister from Holland) and her husband Martin, and their two kids,
Kevin and Christy. Tom's brother, Mike and his wife Toni arrived about
forty-five minutes later after church. Missing was Mary (Tom's sister)
and her husband Randy.
At Luby's, Nancy asked them to put a table together for 15, which they
did, but by the time we were through the line, someone had taken
one end of our table, so we put our own group together. Lunch
was quite pleasant, lots of interesting conversations and some time
to share the latest news with one another.
After lunch, we all went over to Mike's and Toni's new home. It is
lovely, well appointed with a comfortable mix of the old and the
new. There were enough plants and flowers to add a touch of elegance.
I fell in love with their kitchen. I love sinks with windows and theirs
was a nice bay window with a view of their vegetable garden (small
but huge in comparison to mine.)

Teresa called tonight. It was good
to hear from her. Working two jobs leaves her very little time to
call and chit-chat so I'm glad she had a day off to call.
Rodney asked for help with his
algebra homework. When I first wrote down the equation that he gave me,
it looked like a foreign animal. A few minutes later, it suddenly
came to me -- the rules, so we worked the problem, came up with an
answer and then checked with the answer plugged in to the variable.
We came up with X=something else so I went back to pondering how to
do this simple little linear equation, got out an old college algebra
book, but couldn't figure out what I had done wrong.
It finally came to me! Ask all of those people on thediary-l how to do it. Those folks
seem to know everything. Sure enough, in a few short minutes, I got
responses from
John,
Kate,
Ophelia and
Arendel. And,
you know what? They all matched the answer I kept getting! So I went
back and double checked again, plugging the answer in the variable and
sure enough, it was correct!
I'm very proud of myself.
