The birds

Tom took this photo. I love watching the birds at the feeders and in the birdbath splashing around.

The Bathing of the Birds

I'm still having a hard time planning the long term gardening or landscaping that I intend to do. Tom has so many opinions and ideas of his own (that are in direct opposition to mine) that the task of planning is quite difficult.

Nearly every time I start talking about digging a bed somewhere, he informs me that he has other ideas for that spot. He humors me occasionally, and will listen to me ramble, but he's the type of guy who doesn't get all worked up about things until it is time to do them.

In any event, I might not know where the trees or patios or planting sheds are going to go, but I can still fool around in the front flower beds. In anticipation of autumn, I've hatched a plan to plant my stash of fancy schmancy pansy and snapdragon seeds.

So . .we are now the proud owners of several bags of manure.

It has been hot and dry here for quite some time. The birds really seem to appreciate their feeders and their baths. Different kinds of birds visit the baths at different times of day, but these guys are by far, the most boisterous.

Tom saw these guys splashing around out there and was so kind as to get the camera and snap a few shots for me. Gotta love a man like that!

As much as I hate to do it, I unsubscribed from both of my lists last night. Al does a wonderful job of moderating The Journals List. Every day he posts a question that makes me think and I nearly always enjoy the discussions. The Diary List is unmoderated. It is normally in a state of chaos. Nasty barbs tossed about, waaay off topic discussions, light-hearted banter and a bit of angst are common fare on the diary-l. It is a free-for-all and I'm going to miss that one a good deal.

It is a small sacrifice to make in comparison to all I hope to accomplish by freeing up the time I. I was reading about 200 messages each day. Of course, I had to reply to a dozen or so as well.

I want to spend some time with some special projects around the house and catch up on my internet obligations. I'll be needing to write my piece for Georgina's and Elizabeth's Circles Project. That should be fun -- trying to write fiction.

I need to catch up on my correspondence, both e-mail and snail mail. I need to shop for some upcoming birthday gifts and re-start some of the painting and other tasks that have been on hold due to lack of funding or lack of cool weather. Of course, the weather isn't cool yet. It is only September, but I know it will be cooling soon and I'm really looking forward to it.
