My Surprise
One of the things I've very very proud of is our lawn.
Tom has
devoted his loving labors for over a year now trying to transform
the lawn from a weed patch to grass. Not only do we have grass, we have
nicely manicured green grass.
He mows and clips and trims and waters. My job is to take him a big
drink of ice water and a cigarette every now and then. Even with our
current drought and our local water rationing, he is managing to keep
it quite lovely.
When I pulled up after work today, there were a few extra things to make
me smile, though. My front flower bed was all ready to seed, and it had
a little flowers-in-a-birdhouse-planter thing on a stick. I honestly
can't think of a way to describe what it is, but I fell in love with
it at first sight.
Also, my little barrel garden thing was all planted. It is a half barrel
that is partially buried, at an angle to look like it is pouring a stream
of flowers out onto the lawn. Tom put some grass killer in the 'pour' area
last weekend. Today, he tilled it, worked in some organic stuff and
potting soil and planted some bedding plants. White and pink petunias.
The pink ones have a white middle. I've never seen them before.
Maybe I'll have a photo tomorrow to show you my new loveliness.

I'm a bit dazed and confused about what I'm (supposed to be) learning
at work. For some reason, instead of getting training in ~my~ job,
I'm training in a class of communications/hardware people. The stuff
I'm learning is interesting, but it is all new to me. I'm a little more
impressed with our WANs every day.
None of this stuff has anything to do with my job. I asked the
instructor why I was getting this sort of training and she told me that
she didn't know anything about my job so couldn't train it. I'm
picking up a lot of new skills, though. No telling when they might
come in handy.

Tom and I kinda, sort of, started planning our Second Honeymoon this
evening. We talked about it a little. Now that I know what shift I'll
be working and what my days off will be, we know what our options are.
So, on my two vacation days, we'll be doing something in Arkansas. We
decided that we needed to spend our anniversaries in the woods if we can
and it will be our first.
I'm excited.

The Diarist Awards votes are in
and tallied. I'm waiting to hear from some folks about where the graphics
are hidden so that I can notify the winners and get the official
announcement made. Sure is getting close to the wire on this one.
