The Gates of Shambhala

The practice of meditation, whether in a religious or secular context, is a simple and profound path of individual awakening that leads to the discovery of inherent sacredness in the world.

There are three different but complementary approaches within Shambhala International:

Each gate is a way of entering the awake world of enlightened mind. The Houston Shambhala Meditation Center currently offers meditation practice related to the Shambhala and Buddhist gates. We practice meditation in the combined Buddhist/Shambhala environment encouraged by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.

"With all these paths, the underlying unity is the practice of meditation and the mutual understanding that nonaggression, discipline, open heart, and a sense of humor are the fundamental parts of our experience."
Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche
