Framed Flowers
Objectives:
Students create art from flowers. Students write a short letter to their parents as a gift. Prior knowledge includes the concept of which changes come with Spring.
Materials:
Procedure:
Students go to a field or grassy area where they can pick flowers such as clover or daisies. Give each student a sheet of wax paper and have them write their name on it. Have each student fold their sheet of wax paper in half and place their flower inside. When returning to the classroom place the wax paper with the flower in a hard cover book and stack the books so that the flowers will be pressed. The following day the students may have their flowers and begin to frame them. Show the students how to fold the art paper in half and cut a square out of the center so that it forms a frame when unfolded. Now the students can decorate the frames with crayons or pens. Place the flower between two sheets of clear plastic wrap and glue the sides to the frame.
Close:
Have the students write a short Mothers' Day letter to combine with the framed flower for a nice gift for their parents.
