I couldn't get pictures of some the best parts of the trip. The posadas on Christmas Eve and mass at the church in Chichicastenango. After midnight mass I went back to the Posada Belén but I couldn't sleep because the fireworks started and in an hour it sounded like a war zone. I looked out the window and the whole town was blanketed in a thick smog of smoke and rocket explosions still filled the sky. Lots had changed since 92. The elections went nice and quiet with high participation and Rigoberta Menchú was one the second page of four out the five Guatemala City newspapers. That kind of coverage would never have happened just eight years before. Someday I hope to go back to document traditional garments and tapestries for an online Museum of the Modern Indigenous Huipil.
