The Patzún blouse.

These two sisters were from San Cristoból. Their blouses are the typical style of Patzún. The blouse has thin vertical jaspe stripes usually in black and white on a background of a color ranging from subtle red to magenta or scarlet. The embroidery is the most remarkable aspect. In the fifties and sixties the blouse is well documented as having colorful geometric shapes in a ring around the neck. That can still be seen in Guatemala. Later the idea of flowers instead of shapes became popular. The version you see here is by far the most popular blouse in Guatemala today because of the colorful bouquet of flowers meticulously embroidered into each one. See the blouse from Santa Catarina.
