A world of rocks.
Combine these lesson plans with dinosaur activities.
These are three lesson plans and a project that teach different aspects of geology for K-2 classrooms.
Making fossils in plaster ! Students can see how fossils form in sedimentary rocks and take home a painted necklace.
Sandstone in a bottle - This lesson creates a model of the compaction needed to create sedimentary (layered) rocks such as sandstone. Objectives: Students watch closely to collect data. Students attempt explanations of how rocks are made under weight.
Home made rocks! This lesson cannot recreate the heat and pressure that forms metamorphic rocks but it does show a slow hardening from a chemical reaction. Objectives: Students record data and describe patterns.
Pint size volcano project - Here's a project for learning about igneous rocks.
