Terrariums in your classroom:

Here are two methods:

Fill sealable clear plastic baggies (like Ziploc) with potting soil and a little sand. Spray the soil with a spray bottle until it is very moist throughout. Mix in a half teaspoon of seeds. SEAL the bags. Leave the bags in the sun or in a sunny window or under a warm lamp. Condensation will occur with warmth and the seeds will germinate if warmed for a week or so, depending on the germination length.

For a more permanent model use a lidded container such as in the picture above. Pour in potting soil and some sand. Make the soil very moist. Pour off any excess if you've added too much water. Add ivy rootings or other plants that don't need much light and that thrive in a moist environment. Cap the bottle and keep it in a warm place, preferably in the sun or a sunny window. Open the container for a few hours once a week or so to exchange the air and check that the soil is still very moist. Many plants can grow from the fluorescent lights that are probably in your classroom.
