ADDITIONAL READING. Books about two other cases, the Dr. Sam Sheppard case, and the Claus Von Bulow case. Both were based on circumstantial evidence, both convicted, later re-tried and acquitted. In both, it seemed certain each was guilty on the surface, both trials were big in the media, and later investigations turned up evidence proving they were innocent.

  1. Sheppard Murder Case - 1st Ed., Paul Holmes (McKay 1961). NOTE: This is the original story.
  2. Mockery of Justice, Cynthia L. Cooper & Sam Reese Sheppard (about the Dr. Sam Sheppard Case), (Onyx, Penguin Books). NOTE: This is about the Dr. Sam Sheppard case. Dr. Sheppard maintained his innocence, F. Lee Bailey won the re-trial which acquitted him, and this year DNA is expected to prove who the real murderer was--40 years later. (NOTE: I believe this happened in 1998.)
  3. Dr. Sam, An American Tragedy, Jack Harrison Pollack (H. Regnery Co. 1972). (I have not read this one.)
  4. The Von Bulow Affair, William Wright (Dell). NOTE: This is the first book, about the conviction of Von Bulow.
  5. Reversal of Fortune, Alan M. Dershowitz (Random House). NOTE: This is about the appeal and re-trial of Clause Von Bulow where Dershowitz successfully got the conviction overturned by the Court of Appeals, and advised the team which defended him in the re-trial. This case is fascinating: I believed Von Bulow guilty after reading the first book, and believed him innocent after reading Dershowitz's book. See what you think.
  6. Cause of Death, Cyril Wecht, M.D., J.D. (Onyx). Includes a chapter on the Von Bulow case.
