Shady Grove Elementary School
Message from the Counselor
| The Guidance and Counseling Program at Shady Grove Elementary believes in
the dignity and self-worth of each individual. The Program strives to endow each student
with a capacity for self-understanding in order to enable him/her to fully develop his/her
innate potential and to become a fully functioning human being in the world in which
he/she lives. Students are unique human beings who need assistance in their personal, social, educational and career development. These needs can best be met through a developmental and preventative guidance and counseling program designed to assist students in identifying and meeting their needs. There are three main ways that I serve our students in order to meet these needs--classroom guidance lessons, small groups and individual visits to the counselor. Through guidance and counseling activities, opportunities are provided for all students to grow to understand themselves and their relationship with their environment, and to assume responsibility for their own actions and choices. Every student is important and deserves to be valued. Parents can request that their child visit with me, as well as teachers, staff and the students themselves. Please feel free to contact me. I will be glad to try and answer any questions you might have, and if I do not have an answer, I will try to assist you in finding one. I believe communication between parents, teachers, students and staff are key to a child's success. My goal is to help foster this type of relationship to help ensure a child's productive education. Sincerely, Andi Gowins
