1. Who attends RCIA? Anyone interested in joining or being in full communion with the Catholic Church. This includes those needing to be baptized, receive First Eucharist, or receive Confirmation. If you only need to receive Confirmation, it is not necessary to attend RCIA. Contact Kim Philp at 817.284.4811 for information regarding Confirmation classes.
2. Where can I find out more about RCIA? The RCIA team will hold an inquiry session on Sunday, August 13th 2006 in the Resource Room of the St. John's Administration Building from 10:30 am to 12 noon. This will give everyone an opportunity to meet the team and ask general questions. We will distribute some introductory literature and the 2006/2007 RCIA session calendar.
You can also look at the RCIA website for additional information updates.
The first regular session will be held on Sunday, September 10th 2006, starting at 10:30am until 12 noon. Babysitting will be provided for these sessions, but must be requested in advance.
3. When do the RCIA sessions start and how often are they? RCIA sessions will be held EVERY Sunday, except holidays. The Sunday sessions from September 10th through October 22nd will start at 10:30am until 12 noon. Starting October 29th through May 27th, RCIA candidates and their sponsors should attend 9:30am Mass with the RCIA group. The candidates will be dismissed after the Homily for a study session until 10:30am. At 10:30am, sponsors will join their candidates in the Resource Center for a second session that will last until 12 noon.
4. Is there a fee to join RCIA? There is a $35 registration fee to help defray the cost of copies, books and other supplies. Scholarships are available if you are unable to pay the registration fee.
5. Do I need to have a sponsor prior to joining RCIA? No. If you need a sponsor, we would be happy to assign one once RCIA starts.
6. I want to start RCIA this year, but I am currently married and have a previous divorce(s), can I still participate in RCIA this year? You may still participate in the program, but cannot receive your sacraments until your marriage case(s) have been resolved. Please contact Rose Benham as soon as possible, if you think you have a marriage case. The process to annul a previous marriage can be very lengthy, so we need to start working on your case as soon as possible.
7. When will I receive my sacraments? As long as your previous marriage cases have been resolved (see #6 above), all candidates will receive their sacraments at the Easter Vigil mass.
8. Who should I talk to if I have additional questions before the Inquiry Session? Please contact the Directors of Adult RCIA, Rose Benham by e-mail at rosebenham@aol.com or by phone at 817-480-3399.
