An Invitation to Join UPA

Dear University Place Business Owner:

For more than a decade the University Place Association (UPA) has been working on your behalf, looking out for your business interests. University Place, the unique community bounded by Kirby Drive, US59, Main Street, and North Braeswood, was the impetus for the creation of Super Neighborhoods throughout Houston. The UPA Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from civic clubs, institutions, and businesses in this area and serves as a unified and highly effective voice for the unique and diverse interests of our community.

The University Place Association continues to be the watchdog and community advocate in the Rice Village and surrounding areas for countless public works, traffic and transportation, security and parking issues, street-tree planting, and beautification projects. UPA has a strong and vital working relationship with the Rice Village Alliance (RVA), and is also the designated liaison between the community and the City of Houston for the upcoming Kirby Flood Relief Construction Project. Currently UPA and RVA are working together to solve the parking problems in the Village and to establish a circulator trolley for the area. Last year UPA halted the installation of more than 200 parking meters in the Village and in partnership with the Rice Village Alliance, UPA facilitated a meeting and written voting process to allow Village business owners to be heard and responded to by City officials and department heads.

This level of advocacy is only possible because UPA employs a paid Executive Director to look after your interests. Kathie Easterly, UPA's Executive Director, has managed UPA for most of its existence. In addition to tackling street construction issues, traffic and parking concerns, lobbying, monitoring, negotiating and resolving our community's issues, Kathie is running our office, answering the phone and responding to every resident's and business owner's needs. A skilled liaison for business owners as well as homeowners, Kathie looks after the interests of everyone in University Place, and has a longtime working relationship with officials and department heads at all levels of government. Your dues make all of this possible.

We hope you'll join the University Place Association and help maintain the quality of life and business in University Place. There are many challenges ahead, including the construction project on Kirby and the long sought-after implementation of a trolley service for the Rice Village and surrounding area. We need your support in order to provide the man-hours necessary to best represent you and your needs. Our office is open weekdays to assist you, and we look forward to serving you.

Sincerely,
Robert G. Moore, President
University Place Association
