NOTES ON PEYTON PLACE:
-- In her film debut, Diane Varsi was cast as Allison MacKenzie. The character is central to both the novel and film version, and Varsi's "poetic" narration of the film adds to the overall quality of the production. Yet, she is billed at eighth place in the credits and at Oscar time she received a nomination in the Supporting Actress category.
-- Peyton Place received nine Academy Award nominations in all:

     Best Picture
     Best Director: Mark Robson
     Best Actress: Lana Turner
     Best Supporting Actress: Hope Lange
     Best Supporting Actress: Diane Varsi
     Best Supporting Actor: Russ Tamblyn

-- Peyton Place got stiffed at the 1958 Oscars, winning absolutely nothing.
