NOTES ON WILD IN THE STREEETS:
-- The film was based on a magazine article by Robert Thom, first published in Esquire magazine. Thom's paperback novelization was published shortly before the film's release.

-- Robert Thom was married to Millie Perkins, who played Hal Holbrook's wife in the film. Perkins had several years earlier achieved overnight fame when she played the title role in The Diary of Anne Frank. After making her debut in that 1959 film, two years passed before she would co-star with Elvis Presley in Wild in the Country, wherein she played one of the Elvis' three love interests -- the other two being Hope Lange and Tuesday Weld. Appropos of absolutely nothing, Hope Lange played Selena Cross in Peyton Place and Tuesday Weld played Selena Cross in Return to Peyton Place. Incidentally, Wild in the Country also featured Christina Crawford (yes, that Christina Crawford!) among its supporting cast. We think it's interesting that Millie Perkins' miniscule filmography includes two such similar titles: Wild in the Country and Wild in the Streets. If only there had been a third one, like maybe Wild in the Opium Den or Wild in the Bathtub or something like that. When we digress, we don't fool around.
