The  Golden Lotus is the true story of a Chinese peasant mother, Pan Chin, caught in the turmoil of war-torn China in the mid-20th century. Pan Chin lives a miserable life, crippled by her bound feet and trapped in an unhappy marriage. Living in abject poverty, she endures separation from her two sons, the tragic death of her only daughter, and political persecution during the Cultural Revolution.
