There is much ado now about allowing people of the same gender to be formally married in the eyes of the courts. First, let us review the Words of Jesus concerning earthly law and Divine Law:
[Mark 12:13-17]  They sent some Pharisees and Herodians to him to ensnare him in his speech.  They came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you are not concerned with anyone's opinion. You do not regard a person's status but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not pay?"  Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them, "Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at."  They brought one to him and he said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" They replied to him, "Caesar's."  So Jesus said to them, "Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.'  They were utterly amazed at him.
The laws of human should be formed and enacted in a manner that provides justice, freedom, equality, security and similar benefits to all individuals covered by those laws. Those laws are devised, adopted and enforced by human and should be applied equally to all.
The laws of nature are physical laws that can not be revised or eliminated by the whim of human. Examples would be the law of gravity; the law of chemical reaction; the law of propagation of light, sound and electro- magnetic radiation; etc. If any one of these laws ceased to be, life as we know it would cease to be.
The laws of God are of Divine Origin that spell out the purpose and intent of human relationships with each other, with their Creator and with that which was created. These laws are beyond the realm of human jurisdiction or random interpretation to suit the wishes of the time or to support biased opinion.
The message of Jesus had nothing to do with human laws, as such. His command was to "Love one another." We have not only the "right" to love, we have the "obligation" to love! We speak here of Agape’ love … the all inclusive love that God renders to each of us.
Church and State must always remain separated but we function in a society as a unit of humanity and God must always be recognized, thanked and praised. Therefore, the laws of human must always provide equality to all that those laws serve! "What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander." "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." If an established household of opposite genders may obtain a legal marriage to gain the benefits of the law, then an established household of same genders must also be able to obtain an equally recognized marriage.
In my ministry, I have observed many instances where a same gender couple, living together for years, had accumulated property and mementos. When one member of the household died, the family of the deceased (formerly very congenial) came in and laid claim to everything they could touch. In some cases the bereaved mate was forbidden to spend the last moments with the lifemate and was banned from attending the funeral service, if any. The mate was suddenly thrust out into the world with only their clothing and a few personal items. It is a tragic event!
