Names of passengers arriving through the port of the San Francisco in mid-nineteenth century. San Francisco was the main port of entry in settlement of the West, and it is probable that many immigrants had already landed at New York and then taken ship to San Francisco, particularly in the Gold Rush days. Passengers came from all over the world, and vessels often called in other ports en route, embarking extra passengers. San Francisco ship passenger lists were formerly printed in the San Francisco Genealogical Bulletin (later San Francisco Historic Record and Genealogy Bulletin), 1963-1965. See nos. 7875-7891.

[Note by Richard Cleo Vincent on 7-5-2001 --- According to the dates on this page --- If Samuel was born in 1790, Jacob must have been born around 1770.  That would have made him around 80 years old in 1851 in San Francisco.  His daughter, Sarah Frances, born in 1802, was 18 when she married (1) Gilbert Compton in 1820.  She was 34 in 1836 when she married (2) William Henry Harrison Williams, Sr. who was then only 17 years old.  When WHH Williams, Jr. was born in 1848, WHH Williams, Sr. was 29 and Sarah was 46.]
