THE ROMAN MARTYROLOGY
The Thirteenth Day of September
- At Alexandria, the birthday of blessed Philip, the father of St. Eugenia, Virgin, who
relinquished the dignity of the prefecture of Egypt and received the grace of baptism. His
successor, Terence, the prefect, commanded that his throat be cut with a sword while he was
at prayer.
- Likewise the holy martyrs Macrobius and Julian, who suffered under Licinius.
- On the same day, St. Ligorius, Martyr, who dwelt in the desert and was slain by the pagans
for the faith of Christ.
- At Alexandria, St. Eulogius, Bishop, famous for learning and holiness.
- At Angers in France, St. Maurilius, Bishop, who was famed for innumerable miracles.
- At Sens, St. Amatus, Bishop and Confessor.
- In the monastery of Remiremont in France, St. Amatus, Priest and Abbot, illustrious for his
self-denial and the grace of miracles.
- On the same day, St. Venerius, Confessor, a man of wondrous holi-ness, who lived the life of
a hermit in the island of Palmaria.
And elsewhere many other holy martyrs, confessors and holy virgins. Thanks be to God.
