Once the acolytes have finished
assisting the priest with the water and wine, they return the
cruets to the credence table, come to the center of the foot of
the altar, genuflect, and ascend the altar from the sides, as
shown in Figure XXVI, in order to retrieve the chalice veil and
book.

The First Acolyte picks
up the book, the Second Acolyte picks up the chalice veil and
both bow toward the tabernacle. The acolytes then descend the
altar directly to the center as shown in Figure XXVII, and genuflect.

The First Acolyte ascends the altar by crossing in front of the Second Acolyte, and places the book on the Epistle side of the altar as shown in Figure XXVIII. The Second Acolyte ascends the altar by crossing in back of the First Acolyte, and stands to the left side of the priest with the chalice veil. Both acolytes remain in place until the priest takes the chalice veil.
